However your web site is created, it must be hosted somewhere. That means that your site must reside on an Internet server. Whilst large companies will often have their own, maintained by an IT department, most small and medium sized companies cannot afford this. There are, of course, a great many hosting options available but not all are equal.
The design of your business web site says much about your business - so does the way in which you host your site. Your site must be fast, reliable and credible. It should not carry advertisements other than your own. It should have a proper company URL - www.yourcompany.co.uk, for instance - and not some convoluted hard-to-remember address common to free vendors.
It should be 99.9% available, and you should be able to get proper support. Don't get sold on the amount of web space you get - the reality is you need surpisingly little. A typical basic web page is less than 100Kb in size, including 2 or 3 graphics, so you can get 10 pages (nominally) per 1MB web storage. Or 100 pages in 10 MB. Some vendors will sell extreme storage, but this is a marketing tool - most of the space is useless to you.
